Summer Holidays with the History Heroes at the Museum of Chelmsford

Step back in time with the History Heroes this summer! Across the school holidays, join us for hands-on sessions exploring everything from ancient Rome to codebreaking and local geology. Handle real artefacts, enjoy themed crafts and activities, and take home your own creations. Each week focuses on a different theme, and tickets are just £5 per child for Museum members when you book ahead — the same price as last year.

Romans in Chelmsford
22 – 31 July (Tuesdays to Thursdays)
Discover Chelmsford's Roman past with History Hero Maximus! Learn about the Mansio on Moulsham Street, create your own Roman mosaics and coins, play Roman numeral bingo, and handle real Roman artefacts from our collection.

Chelmsford Code Breakers
5 – 14 August (Tuesdays to Thursdays)
From ancient cyphers to wartime secrets, explore the world of codes and communication. Try out morse code and the Caesar Cipher, solve puzzles, and invent your own secret codes to take home.

Let's Rock! (and fossil)
19 – 28 August (Tuesdays to Thursdays)
Get hands-on with rocks and fossils from Essex and beyond. Bring in your own finds to share, enjoy digging trays, create fun geology-themed crafts, and handle real specimens from the museum's collection.
