Wicked Spirits? Witchcraft & Magic in Colchester Castle. Graphic of the outline of Colchester Castle filled with symbols connected to witchcraft.

About

Wicked Spirits? was made possible thanks to the support of the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic and the Museum of British Folklore. We are thrilled to welcome our collaborators from Boscastle in Cornwall, for a talk on their specialist subject!

Simon Costin, director of the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic will be talking along with Mellany Robinson, project manager of the Museum of British Folklore about the history of Britain’s only museum dedicated to Witchcraft and magical practise. Based in Boscastle, Cornwall, the museum houses over 4000 objects with a unique archive of over 8000 books, drawings and MS. Join them as they share stories of the many interesting characters who have been involved with the museum and how a one-time spy for MI6, occultist and film director, established one of the UK’s most popular independent museums.

The Castle will be open from 5 – 7pm, so you have time to explore Wicked Spirits?, browse the magical merchandise on sale in the shop and even grab a drink.

'Wicked Spirits? Witchcraft + Magic at Colchester Castle’ opens on July 16th and runs to January 6th 2023.

12+ Please note but this talk explores real historical
events, including death and torture, which some people
 may find upsetting.

£6 per person or book 5 events for £25
