About

Porters Hall is a luxury moated manor house in Stebbing, Essex. The property has been lovingly restored in 2025 and provides spacious accommodation and stunning grounds, sleeping up to twenty-two guests and four dogs. The property is set in an idyllic countryside location, just one hour from London and twenty minutes from London Stansted airport.

Porters Hall offers a rare combination of historic elegance and modern luxury, making it the perfect retreat for large groups. The property is grade II* and has many original features, complimented with contemporary interiors.

Porters Hall has 11 bedrooms, with 8 in the main house and 3 in the outbuilding next to the house. All bedrooms have Smart TVs and many of the bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms - one bedroom even has a romantic copper claw-footed bath! Within the outbuilding there are two groundfloor, level access, accessible bedrooms, each with their own wet room style en-suite, suitable for wheelchair users, including emergency assistance alarms, grab rails and shower seat. Attic bedrooms have air-conditioning.

Also within the outbuilding is a large games room, with Smart TV, barrel bar, multi-games table (pool, air hockey and table tennis) and church pew reclaimed from Stebbing village church. The outbuilding also includes a two-storey suite, with lounge, bedroom and en-suite.

The kitchen is a chef's dream and boosts a Smart TV, Electric Aga, Microwave, Slow Cooker, Air Fryer, American Fridge Freezer, Fridge, Wine Cooler, Quooker tap and 2 x Dishwashers. With washing machine and tumble dryer in the utlity room.

The dining room comfortably seats twenty-two people and offers a fabulous space for family meals and celebratory feasts! The owners are able to recommend a locally based, award winning private chef as well as cocktail making, reflexologist and beautician services.

The two, light and airy lounges both have large inglenook fireplaces with log burners and one lounge includes a mirror TV. There is a bar room with a worktop made from copper coins to recognise the roman workshops, bath house and batch of coins excavated on the farm in 1958. The coins were sent to the British Museum and were identified as typical third and early fourth century local imitations of Roman radiates – indicating that site at Porters Hall may have previously been one of the local irregular minting places for these coins!

There is a large private, fenced garden with patio, dual fuel barbeque and garden furniture to accommodate al-fresco dining for the whole group.

The property has ground source heat pump central heating (with underfloor heating and separate heating controls in each room).

Electricity, bed linen, towels, hairdryers, Wi-Fi and fuel for the wood burners are included. All bathrooms have LED de-mist mirrors and heated towel rails. Highchairs and a Welcome pack are provided.

Porters Hall is dog friendly and even has an outdoor doggy shower.

There is private parking for up to 10 cars and electric car charging points. Access to the property is via electric gates with intercom.

Guests are able to access tennis courts at Stebbing Tennis Club, less than 15 minutes walk from the property.

Please note that smoking, candles and tea-lights are not allowed within the buildings, but there is a designated smoking area outside with cigarette butt bin. Porters Hall has a (fenced) moat which contains water and is adjacent to a working (arable) farmyard.

Stebbing is a quintessential English village with a pub and village shop, offering a peaceful and picturesque setting just a short drive from the bustling towns of Saffron Walden, Great Dunmow, Colchester and only an hour from London. With plenty of local attractions, charming pubs, and scenic countryside to explore, this historic manor house is the ideal base for a memorable holiday. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, or just enjoying a family getaway, Porters Hall promises to make your stay truly unforgettable.

The renovation of the outbuilding at Porters Hall was part-funded by a grant from the UK Government, through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
